S&O Secures $4.3 Million Settlement in Unjust Imprisonment Case

JULY 2016

Schertler & Onorato partners David Schertler, Danny Onorato, and Bob Spagnoletti successfully settled a civil lawsuit filed on behalf of a District of Columbia man who was wrongfully imprisoned for more than 26 years for crimes he did not commit.  In 2014, the firm’s client was exonerated by DNA evidence and received a certificate of actual innocence.  Through the settlement agreement negotiated with the District of Columbia government, the client recovered $4.3 million under the D.C. Unjust Imprisonment Act as compensation for his wrongful incarceration.
