David Dickieson Obtains Dismissal of Appeal Under the Federal Arbitration Act

SEPTEMBER 2017

A federal district court in Maryland adopted the legal argument of Schertler & Onorato partner David Dickieson and dismissed the appeal of an arbitration decision that had been entered in favor of the firm’s client, a prominent National Football League agent.  The federal court agreed that the appeal could not proceed, because the opposing party, also a sports agent, had failed to comply with service-of-process requirements under the Federal Arbitration Act.  The decision resulted in dismissal of all claims against the firm’s client for damages and injunctive relief and may serve as an important precedent in other arbitration appeals.
