David Schertler

David Schertler grew up in Chicago, Illinois and is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Virginia Law School. After law school, Mr. Schertler was accepted into the Honors Program at the United States Department of Justice, where he worked as a trial attorney in the Antitrust Division. In 1984, Mr. Schertler became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. There, he prosecuted criminal cases in both the District of Columbia Superior Court and in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Schertler tried more than 50 jury trials, conducted over 100 grand jury investigations and argued more than a dozen appeals before the local and federal appellate courts. From 1992 until 1996, Mr. Schertler served as Chief of the Homicide Section, where he supervised 30 of the Office's most seasoned prosecutors in investigating and trying some of the most publicized and complex criminal cases in Washington, D.C. In 1989, he was awarded the Office's "Outstanding Advocate Award" given to one trial attorney each year.

As a defense attorney, Mr. Schertler has tried many cases, both criminal and civil, with impressive results. In addition, he has represented individuals in hearings and depositions before Congressional committees and a wide array of federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Election Commission, the Department of Defense and the General Services Administration.

Mr. Schertler is highly acclaimed as a trial lawyer, being recently named by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the "Top 30 Lawyers" in Washington, D.C., as well as being named a "Super Lawyer" and in "The Best Lawyers in America." He was recently invited to join the prestigious "American College of Trial Lawyers," a professional organization made up of the top courtroom lawyers throughout the country.
