Lisa Freiman Fishberg joined Schertler & Onorato upon her graduation from The George Washington University Law School in 1997. Ms. Fishberg’s practice focuses on civil litigation and domestic relations matters. She has also defended clients in a wide range of criminal matters.

Ms. Fishberg represents clients involved in commercial litigation, contract disputes, professional licensing issues, employment and EEO matters, civil fraud, civil forfeiture, federal and local tort claims actions, professional malpractice, negligence and personal injury cases, and defamation and other intentional torts. Ms. Fishberg’s experience in domestic relations matters includes cases involving questions of custody, child and spousal support, separation, property distribution, contested and uncontested divorces, negotiation of settlement agreements, and intrafamily offenses and domestic violence.

Representative of Ms. Fishberg’s cases includes defending against claims for substantial retroactive child support; obtaining favorable judgments in questions of marital property division; pursuing child support from delinquent payors; and increasing visitation rights for non-custodial parents. Ms. Fishberg was actively involved in one of the most extensively litigated civil cases in the D.C. Superior Court, obtaining a jury verdict in her client’s favor. Ms. Fishberg successfully litigated an excessive force tort claim against the United States; and she has negotiated favorable settlements in a wide variety of employment and contract disputes. Ms. Fishberg has defended clients facing adverse professional licensure actions before District of Columbia administrative agencies. Ms. Fishberg also succeeded in having a client’s mandatory-minimum sentence vacated based upon misapplication of the D.C. Youth Act. Ms. Fishberg’s appellate experience includes appearances before the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Ms. Fishberg’s pro bono commitments include volunteering at the D.C. Family Court Self-Help Center and the D.C. Bar Pro-Se Plus Divorce Clinic.

Ms. Fishberg received her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School in 1997, and her B.A., cum laude, from SUNY Albany in 1994.

Ms. Fishberg is a Member of the Bars of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and New York.
